Meet Our Staff
98% of our camp counselors are former Gaar Mountain Running Camp campers and alumni of high schools in attendance! Our counselors have high school and collegiate level running and coaching experience and some have continued to train and compete post-collegiately. Counselors stay in cabins with campers and facilitate all runs and activities for the week. We pride ourselves on our ability to connect on an individual level with our campers and ensure the same quality experience that kept all of us coming back as campers and now as counselors!!

Denver Davis
Denver has been the owner and director of Gaar Mountain Running Camp since 2024. Denver has been working at running camp since 2008 and was a camper from 1998 to 2000. Outside of camp Denver has been coaching cross country and track and field for 20 years, having spent 5 years at Lake Braddock and he currently serves as the director of

Outside of camp Denver has been coaching cross country and track and field for 20 years, having spent 5 years at Lake Braddock and he currently serves as the director of cross country and track and field at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, VA. Denver ran competitively for Lake Braddock and the University of Lynchburg. Denver and his wife, Ashley, live in Waynesboro, VA with their son.

Nick has been working at running camp since 2013 and was a camper from 2011 to 2012 while running cross country and track at Lake Braddock. Nick is a 5x Ivy League Champion and 4xMile Relay Penn Relays Champion while running for the University of Pennsylvania. Nick does data an
Nick is an assistant director at Gaar Mountain Running Camp. Nick has been working at running camp since 2013 and was a camper from 2011 to 2012 while running cross country and track at Lake Braddock. Nick does data analytics work with various government agencies and also has been coaching cross country and track at Maggie Walker Governor's School since 2021. Nick and his wife, Emma, live in Mechanicsville, VA with their son.

Rick is an assistant director and the running director at Gaar Mountain Running Camp. Rick has been working at running camp since 1983 when it was founded as the George Mason Running Camp by then GMU coach John Cook. Rick ran competitively at Edison High School and Virginia Tech. Rick was also a competitive tri-athlete for many years
Rick is an assistant director and the running director at Gaar Mountain Running Camp. Rick has been working at running camp since 1983 when it was founded as the George Mason Running Camp by then GMU coach John Cook. Rick ran competitively at Edison High School and Virginia Tech. Rick was also a competitive tri-athlete for many years having competed in and completed the Ironman Triathlon on multiple occasions. Rick’s three children all attended and worked at Camp Varsity and are now counselors at Gaar Mountain Running Camp. Rick is a physical education teacher, coach and race director in Torrance, CA where he lives with his wife, Connie.

Mike has been at camp for 10 summers and serves as an Activities Director and handles staffing for camp. Mike attended Lake Braddock and was a camper from 2014-2015. He currently lives in Arlington, VA where he works as a consultant for various government agencies.

Hannah has been at camp for 8 summers. She has served as female staff coordinator, camper health and wellness coordinator and runs the camp Instagram account. Hannah went to Harrisonburg High School and was a camper from 2015-2018. She currently lives in Raleigh, NC and is a communications specialist for scientific grant programs around North Carolina.
